MY PATHWAY
HEALTH SERVICES/ PATIENT CARE
Since I was a kid I always knew I wanted to help people, but not just in any way, I wanted to help them as a nurse, I wanted to be able to help them cure their illnesses or take care of their injuries. From this kid inspiration I decided I wanted to be a nurse. I always felt so interested towards the nurses at my own clinic; I always thought it was so cool to see a nurse checking my vital signs. Of course when I started high school I immediately chose health care as my pathway. During my high school years I took several classes that were required for it. I took Exploring Health Careers my sophomore year, Psychology my junior year, and now as a senior I am taking Physiology and my CAN class.
For my job shadow I shadowed a medical assistant at my clinic. They showed me many procedures that must be taken, all the basic information and also what to do in case of an emergency situation. Every question I made they covered really well with a lot of information as to how it is to have a day in the medical field, to different college recommendations. Overall, I loved being able to see how a medical assistant works and how it is to manage their work. It made me want to follow my goals a thousand times more.
After taking all these different classes I came to the conclusion I want to not only become a registered nurse but I want to specialize in psychiatry, I want to become a psychiatric nurse and take care of people with mental illnesses. For now the plan is to graduate Lindsay High School, and well my first option university wise is Boise State University in Idaho, so if I get accepted there that’s where I’m going no matter what. Once in BSU I will get my RN license and after that I will find a school with a good mental health program to specialize in psychiatry.
